Cara Nord Negre 2014 – 91 pts, $18.95

It’s back – from cult winemaker Tomas Cusine of Spain comes Cara Nord Negre, the very well priced Spanish red blend of Grenache Syrah and Garrut. Coming from the mountainous Sierra Prades in the DO of Conca de Barbera located between the Priorat and Costers del Segre, the wine’s name literally means “North Face,” where the high altitude results in challenging growing conditions but excellent wine.

From local legendary wine critic David Lawrason who gave it a 90:

“This is a delicious blend of garnacha, syrah and an obscure local grape called garrut. It pours deep ruby. The nose is svelte and ripe with considerable oak vanillin, cedar, a hint of pepper and ripe almost jammy strawberry/cherry fruit. It’s full bodied, smooth, almost creamy in texture, with fine tannin.

Well balanced. Some minerality on the finish. The length is very good to excellent.”

And if you can’t make it to the LCBO – we do have a few cases remaining in our consignment inventory, so give us a call and we’ll connect you!
