92 Pt Parker Valdivieso Eclat Vigno 2010 Vintages Release

The first ever Vigno released in Ontario, from Valdivieso, is now available in limited quantities at select Vintages stores, with 92 points from Robert Parker, 93 points from Tim Atkin.

What is a Vigno, you might ask? It is the first DOC in Chile, the first true appellation to be established in Chile.  The word “Vigno” comes from the combination of the words “vino” (Spanish for wine) and “Carignan” – the grape varietal which must comprise a minimum of 65% of the wine. And not just any Carignan – it must be produced from old vines aged 30+, dry farmed AND and come from the Maule Valley.

Valdivieso’s Vigno comes from dry farmed bush vines that are over 70 years old, and sourced from the Melozal area, noted for its aridness and intense summer. It is nestled in the coastal ranges and is protected from extremes of the coastal and the mountain effects.   These conditions allow for exceptional ripeness, soft tannins and flavours to develop.

How does this all stack up? The wine is a dark intense red, with distinct violet notes towards the edges. The nose is intense and complex, with spices, fresh red fruits and slightly wild aromas of violet. A well-structured wine,  full bodied, soft tannins, lots of flavour, and vibrant refreshing acidity.

Pick up a bottle at your Vintages store for $29.95, ask for product code #541128.
