Located in the Vila Verde district of Braga, Quintas do Homem is a family run winery that Joy discovered on her trip to Portugal and just had to bring back home!
The winery sources its grapes from two estate vineyards, Quinta da Veiga and Quinta do Paço, both located in the heart of the Minho.
Their vineyards are planted with native varietals: Loureiro, Alvarinho, Fernão Pires e Vinhão and Arinto. They are serious about sustainability, farming as naturally as possible to establish a balanced environment in the vineyards where the vines do not depend on artificial fertilisers, but exist in perfect partnership with the soil. Homem are members of the International organisation for Biological Control (IOBC) which promotes environmentally safe methods of pest and disease control. The IOBC is a system based on established sustainability principles, the application of natural resources, the use of regulatory mechanisms to replace fertilizers polluting, using appropriate tools and procedures for monitoring traceability of the process, making it economically viable, environmentally sound and socially just.
The result of this commitment are some delicious wines!
