description
Ciro Classico is a DOC region of Calabria in southern Italy. The red wines produced here must be a made from a minimum of 80% Gaglioppo, and this excellent bottling from Ipploto is made from 100% Gaglioppo. The fruit is dry farmed and hand harvested, and after fermentation in cement vats, the wine spends about 8 months in French barrique, part of which is new. The result is a concentrated red wine, nearly full bodied, full of ripe fruit ranging from red to black mixed berries layered with subtle baking spice notes. If you've not had a Ciro rosso before, check this one out with some grilled sausages, hearty red sauce pastas, or even a simple bacon cheeseburger.
